Department Chair Scott Jarvis Receives Honorary Doctorate from University of Jyväskylä in Finland 

Professor Scott Jarvis has been cooperating for many years with the Centre for Applied Language Studies, the Department of Language and Communication Studies and the Department of Teacher Education in the research on language skills assessment and language learning.

During his sabbatical leave (2009–2010), which he spent in Jyväskylä, Scott Jarvis was actively engaged in the debate on the learning of the second language and made use of the opportunities for post-graduate studies offered at Finnish universities. There has also been cooperation in a number of different projects.

Professor Jarvis is thoroughly familiar with the Finnish context and the characteristics of the Finnish language. Moreover, his knowledge of transfer, vocabulary and experimental and statistical methods complement the expertise possessed by the department.
